Er behandelt die Frage nach den Voraussetzungen und Bedingungen für das Entstehen von Neuem als Neurobiologe und Philosoph. Humberto Maturana ist Biologe und Philosoph. Er wird der zweiten Generation der KybernetikerInnen zugerechnet und ist vor allem für seine Theorie der Autopoiesis über das Wesen reflexiver Rückkoppelungskontrollen in lebenden Systemen bekannt.
